Here we are,
in the long anticipated,
throughout history prophesied
and until now often disbelieved
Collective Dark Night of the Soul...

Never before in our recorded history has humankind at such a global scale
experienced the Hero’s Soul Journey through the Dark Night, en masse...

Like the ancient sporadic mystic who lived, died, and lived again to tell,
here we all are, modern mystics of these portentous times
collectively finding ourselves forced through the contractions of a dark canal
looking for the light at the other end of a rebirth that's way overdue
and yet right on divine timing in the bosom of our great Mother Earth.

Some of us are going through seemingly endless cycles of dark nights of deaths and rebirths,
like ocean waves that drag us back and forth and shove us on unfamiliar shores of a desert island
where we suddenly find ourselves alone—like felons of crimes known and unknown,
convicted to a painful time of isolation and disconnect...
Others of us are emerging from the nightmares and horrors, dazed and confused, disoriented...
And others yet have awakened to the awareness and reality of The Kingdom of Heaven Within.

Wherever you are on this unique and unprecedented collective journey of the soul through the depths of the human experience, I feel you. I see you. I know what you are going through.
I've been through it and came out on the other side of the veil.

My hope and desire in sharing of my own experience through 20 long years of dark night of the soul
is to offer you insight, comfort, inspiration, guidance, a venue for kinship with others like you,
and the motivation to continue pushing through it all,
to uncover the heart of your own Kingdom Within
and build your very own Heaven on Earth.

May you break free from the illusions of limitation and separation
imposed on the ineffably Divine fabric of your humanness
so you can celebrate the precious humanity you inhabit
as the Almighty Life Force Spark of the Divine made manifest in the flesh.

Who is "The Based Mystic"?

The journey to liberation that's paved by Self-Mastery and Spiritual Sovereignty is
not one made of conformism nor faintness of heart.

Facing and standing by truth, by logic, by reason, by natural law and especially by Universal Oneness, takes courage, conviction, dedication, determination, self-reliance, self-acceptance, and self-love...despite all the fear, doubt, apathy, inconsistency, dependence, insecurity, and self-loathing that will necessarily arise.

The path of the self-illuminated Master is inherently dark, in every way. We feel alone, disconnected, and lost while fumbling blindly because we cannot see our path, our place within it, or our connection to others...until we rekindle our own inner Light which radiates outwards to show us the way through the illusions and lies.

Those who—moved by their desire for realizing inner and outer connection—decide to make known the unknown, to illuminate the darkness within, and chart their own ways into consciousness explorations are set on facing and knowing truth regardless of what anyone else feels about it.

And that's why I have come up with the name "The Based Mystic", a playful but truthful description of The One who takes on "The Great Work"—that of freeing oneself from bondage of any kind, not only for the sake of one's own liberation but also as recognition of one's own and everyone else's connection to The One and The All.

"The Based Mystic" is obviously not a standard theological or historical title but rather my own synthesis combining contemporary internet slang with ancient spiritual concepts which I have somehow found myself experiencing throughout my own spiritual journey.

The Based Mystic is the one who possesses genuine, direct spiritual insight (a mystic) while remaining grounded, unadulterated, and unconcerned with social validation ("based") while walking the path of awareness of interconnectedness.

DEFINITIONS

"Based"

In modern slang, particularly within internet culture, "based" describes someone who is authentic, courageous, and true to their own beliefs regardless of popular opinion or social pressure. Originating from rapper Lil B, the term has evolved to praise individuals who do not care about being rejected by the mainstream and are considered the direct opposite of "cringe" (which describes behavior that is awkward, fake, or overly concerned with social approval). Used to express strong agreement with someone articulating a controversial or contrarian opinion that defies mainstream narratives, "based" serves as an affirmative validation of statements perceived to be grounded in objective truth, facts, and logic rather than emotion or social conditioning. Calling someone "based" is a way to validate their raw honesty and celebrate their refusal to conform to performative societal expectations.

Mystic

A mystic is traditionally defined as a person who seeks a direct, un-mediated experience of the sacred or ultimate reality. Unlike those who follow religious rituals or rely on intermediaries, a mystic bypasses the intellect and ego to achieve a state of union with the divine, the cosmos, or "The One." This experience is often described as transcending established belief systems and dissolving the sense of a separate self. Historically, figures like St. John of the Cross or St. Francis of Assisi exemplify this through their intense, personal spiritual encounters. In contemporary contexts, the term also extends beyond religious frameworks to describe individuals who pursue profound, intuitive insights into the nature of existence through practices like meditation, mindfulness, and finding the sacred in deep communion with the natural world, art, or human connection rather than solely within traditional faith systems.
